Roadside Monitoring in India for Traffic Emission Management

In India, road transportation serves as the primary mode for both goods delivery and passenger travel. The country's extensive road network, stretching across 4.7 million kilometers, significantly enhances the quality of life for citizens and promotes economic growth. However, the environmental and health risks associated with vehicular emissions cannot be overlooked. To advance the understanding of vehicle emission factors in India, Harish C.

Phuleria from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has deployed Sapiens's high-performance, cost-effective sensors along the Panch-Shrishti-Complex (PSC) Road in the Powai area. This innovative approach facilitates a detailed analysis of emission factors for individual moving vehicles and fleets. By identifying the proportion of "super-emitters" within various vehicle categories, the study equips authorities with critical insights to develop targeted strategies for mitigating vehicular pollution.
